Hi Michael

Accessing the JSON API on port 443 with username/password is no longer 
supported, and a token based login method should be used on port 8080 
instead (still https).

We are planning to do a more thorough documentation of how to work with 
the JSON API, including the new token based login method. We will also 
be releasing smartphone example applications that showcase this external 
communication with the dSS, in code.

For now, you can take a look at this slide show, for a detailed 
explanation on accessing the JSON API:

It's made with smartphones in mind, but applies to any external application.
